Sunday Sikhs

Welcome to Sunday Sikhs

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh (+ praying hands emoji with smiling face)

I only learnt a couple of years ago that this is a traditional way in which Sikh people often Gursikh (devout sikhs) greet one another. The meaning alomg with a useful explanation can be found here:

This blog is a long time in the making along with many moments of would this be useful or helpful to anyone. I concluded that the best approach would be nothing ventured nothing gained.

The initial concept came about in Feb 2020 – then came COVID lockdown and I began to wonder if anyone was missing the chance to go the gurdwara (as I was) in particular when the option / freedom to go is taken away from us…

The idea for the name Sunday Sikhs was planted in the mind many years ago. In Christianity and possibly other religions too God rested on Sundays and like a large proportion of the UK I worked Mon – Fri, naturally allocating Friday to go out (should an invitation come along) leaving Saturday for household chores, catching up with jobs not done in the week and leaving Sunday’s for rest… this was ok as God rested on Sundays too! I thought this as I lacked a lot of knowledge and lacked insight into my own Sikh religion.
